How much do domain disputes cost?

The total cost of domain disputes usually consists of the two components: (1) official administrative fees for the application, and (2) legal fees.

(1) Official administrative fees

The amount of official fees depends on the chosen platform on which you decide to claim and also on the type of disputed domain name.

The Arbitration Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) provides its generic domain name dispute services (according to UDRP) for a fee of USD 1,500 (approximately EUR 1,240).

The official fee at the Czech Court of Arbitration (CAC) for a proposal in the event of a dispute under the UDRP is EUR 800, with the proviso that, given the complexity of the case, it may be decided to increase it by a further EUR 300. The fee will also be increased if the counterparty (holder of the disputed domain name) submits a statement on the proposal. The official fee in this case is EUR 1,100.

For the <.eu> domain name disputes, the fees are currently only EUR 100 on all platforms. The administrator of the <.eu> domain (registry) EURid subsidizes the price for domain disputes over <.eu> domains at least until 31 December 2020. This discount has been extended several times in the past, so it can be assumed that it will be maintained in the future.

Disputes over the domains <.cz> are decided only by CAC for the total price of 34,000 CZK (approx. 1,300 EUR). In relation to Slovak domain names <.sk>, the only arbitration platform is the Arbitration Center of the European Information Society Institute (EISI) and offers its services for 1,150 EUR.

(2) Legal fees

The second component of the costs of domain disputes is of a contractual nature and depends on the agreement of the parties.
